Sky Watch Friday # 46 - Red Dragon Revealed

Image
As promised here is the answer to the identity of my subject matter for this weeks Sky Watch Friday. Although I would like to say, as suggested by T-Bone Travis , that it is can can dancers, I am afraid it is not and the actual answer is much less interesting! Just for a laugh though here is the image rotated...it really does look like dancing girls, with very well formed calf muscles! The picture is of a communications tower which had a vertical line of red lights. I tried to take a night shot of it without the aid of a tripod and this was the result. Anyway my thanks again to everyone for their comments and having a guess. Happy Sky Watch everyone and see you next week!

Calling All Sky Watchers

Image
I have recently become a member of The Cloud Appreciation Society , a world wide club of sky watchers! Anyway I wanted to draw your attention to them and recommend you pop over to their site and have a look. They have fabulous information and images as well as artistic submissions from their members and it just strikes me as something that every Sky Watch Friday participant would love! While I was there today I came across this amazing image and story. Article Credit - News National Geographic via Cloud News .

Roxy and the God of Wind and Storms

Image
Thanks to everyone who left a comment wishing Roxy a speedy recovery. I am thrilled to report that she is making small, daily improvements and is seeming much more herself which is just wonderful. She can still only manage small walks but felt up to barking at the lawnmower today which we are taking as a good sign! (She has an aversion to appliances, in particular the lawn mower and the hoover, and if left alone with them will sometimes attack!) Thanks also so Karen for the addition of a wind god to accompany my last Sky Watch Friday post. Tawhirimatea, the Maori god of wind and storms. This is the story. Tawhirimatea - Māori legend retold by Wiremu Grace, 2001 Tawhirimatea lived between the embrace of Ranginui and Papatuanuku as did the other children of his whānau. He liked living close to his parents. He could talk to his mother and, when he needed it, he could get advice from his father. Tawhirimatea didn't mind the difficulties of living in continual darkness or that th...

Asperatus

Image
While visiting over at Bowledover I read about a new cloud that has been discovered called Asperatus. Bowledover can tell you more about it here . It has still to be clarified as a completely new cloud form but either way it is very impressive and a little scary! My thanks to Bowledover for the information and leading me to discover The Cloud Appreciation Society . Image Credits: The Guardian

A Favourite Song and Sky Watch Compilation

I have had this song on in my truck for a few days, which reminds me, I have a cool snap of my truck to post. Anyway, This is a collection of my Sky Watch shots to a great tune.

Red Sky at Night

Image
I cannot take credit for this image which was taken by Lord L, a fellow photographer and occasional guest blogger over at Bowledover , however I thought this just had to be shared. This shot was taken lastnight at sunset and has undergone no enhancement. I couldn't believe the brightness of the colours.

Sculpture Park Ref: Sky Watch Friday # 28

Image
I did not provide an explanation of my previous Sky Watch Friday post and several people have asked what it is. The picture sums up our skies of late and is a shot taken at a sculpture park my fella and I went round some time back. It was all set in a woodland and was fabulous to walk round. Here is a better shot of the piece itself.

Mammatus

Image
While Sky Watch travelling I came across a post about mammatus clouds at Eye to the Sky, home of Jess Cloud-stalker . I have never heard of mammatus clouds before and have certainly never seen them. After seeing Jess's shots and looking for a few more examples on the photo share site I use I will be looking out for nothing else! All pictures here are from Webshots and appropriate image credit is given below each picture.
