Asperatus

While visiting over at Bowledover I read about a new cloud that has been discovered called Asperatus. Bowledover can tell you more about it here.

It has still to be clarified as a completely new cloud form but either way it is very impressive and a little scary!

My thanks to Bowledover for the information and leading me to discover The Cloud Appreciation Society.

  1. Now that was one freaky cloud. I have never seen anything exactly like it and now I have to find out! Thanks! These pics are not your own?

  2. Hi Chrome3D. I knew you would like them and was going to pop over to let you know about them.

No the shots are regrettably not mine. I got them from the Guardian website and I think they got them from The Cloud Appreciation Society. I have put a link behind the text for their name in case you want to find out more. Aren't they just amazing! And a little daunting, end of the world stuff!

  3. Hi dancin, I have stopped by to admire the pictures you have posted. Really Science Fiction looking I think.
While I am here a huge thank you too, for the membership to The Cloud Appreciation Society. I will wear my badge with joy and keep watching the skies.

  5. These really are an amazing find. Dewdrop our regular skywatch storm chaser would love these, and I'd love to be assigned to photograph these.

  6. Hey Babooshka. I think Dewdrop has visited my Mum's blog, Bowledover, who alerted me to these new clouds and originally posted about them. I would truly love to see them!

Have you been to the Cloud Appreciation Society website? They have some amazing shots I think you would like.

I can really understand the attraction to storm chasing. I love all weather, the more dramatic the better. Do you get many storms your way?
