Garden Party

It is my fellas birthday on Tuesday however as we have four days off for the Easter Bank Holiday I asked him if he wanted to start celebrating early and he chose today to be his 'un-official' birthday. We have therefore planned four days of birthday spoils including todays event of purchasing and digging in a pond!

The weather has been kind and the rain kept at bay until the last half hour. As such we have a shiny new pond with plants in situ!

We put a small pond in a couple of years back using a liner and our resident frogs moved straight in, the new one is bigger and we can't wait for them to venture over and take a dip. We currently have three frogs, that we know of, and one newt.

When we put the first pond in they were in the water before we had finished tidying away so I don't expect it will take long. They may have to fight for space with the dogs though! Roxy is a water baby and I have no doubt will give it a go at some point.

  1. Hello! We only really got into gardening at our last house but now I could not imagine not having one.

Can you get an allotment or a roof garden? I always thought a roof garden in a city would be brilliant.

They seem to be quite popular features in new developments but they still build the houses far to close together!

  3. Happy B'day Mr. Dancin'! We dug a garden pond a long time ago and one winter had an unfortunate "ice augur" accident which put a slice in the liner and all the water drained out...so we managed to get most of the goldfish into large garbage cans to overwinter in the garage and that spring my husband dug a much deeper and larger pond and we bought an expensive liner and redid it all ... and only a couple of the fish didn't make it. Well, a Great White Heron made off with a lot of them and we won't "do" goldfish anymore, but we do have resident bullfrogs that live there and are anxiously awaiting their concerts soon (which can put you in a trance, for sure!) and we have waterlilies and irises and cattails and a few other things. It is a source of amazement for Tuffy and another cat that visits we named "Creamy" who chase the mallard ducks off and watch the frogs developing. That bothers me a lot, but we have to take it as the whole package. So, best of luck with your pond and have a really great birthday celebration wkend.
    Bye for now! SisSTAR KLH

  4. Did you save the lower water from your old pond. The frogbit is in hibernation in that part.
If mine survived the winter I can always get you some more.
It sounds lovely and I look forward to seeing it.
Happy Birthday to the other half.He looks 21 every time I see him.

  7. Hey Bowledover! I will tell him about looking 21, you are right though!

We have the old pond intact at present as the frogs are still in it. I am umming and arring about the plants as someone from work gave Mr Dancin some water Iris which are lovely but brought with them this horrible little weed which covered the surface of the pond completely last summer. I do not want this in the new pond and so am not sure whether to transfer anything now. Anyway there's no rush to get rid of the old pond so we have time to talk more. xxx
