Miriam Makeba - Rest in Peace

On 9th November 2007 Miriam Makeba passed away shortly after finishing a concert. In his condolence message, former South African president Nelson Mandela said it was fitting that Makeba died doing what she did best - singing.

I believe in celebrating life, and death is a part of life. I have had my moment of sadness, now I am going to put one of her brilliant albums on and dance all night!

  1. Before I even watch and listen to your videos, I want to thank you so much for this memoriam. When I got on here just now was the first time I read about her death, and I just cried. I checked a record (LP) out of the library when I was 16 (1968) which was my intro to her, and she was so wonderful. I look fwd to listening to your choices. Thank you so much.

  2. Hello Kyle, you are welcome, she was such an amazing woman. Do you remember what the first album you got of hers was?

I came across Miriam Makeba via my Dad. He is a big fan of hers who came across her music while working in Kenya in the 60's. I have not been able to get enough since.

Thank you so much for your comment. I hope you enjoy the music and I hope you have a dance! Bye for now.

  3. Those were amazing and esp the last one...I cried. She really brings out the wildness in you, doesn't she? Perhaps not so much in her '70s, but she was so beautiful in these videos. The record from the library in high school, I have no idea what it was, but it was my intro to international sounds and I loved it. I saw Anjelique Kidjo at a music festival in Detroit and loved her also, esp Voodoo Child. Do you like her?
Rest in peace or wildness, Miriam Makeba! and thank you, Dancin' Fool!
I wish I knew how to post videos to my blog, but I've gotta work on that one someday. Getting my TizMe was fun, and "adopting" my two virtual pets, which need feeding, by the way ;o)

  4. Hey Kyle. She really was so very beautiful and wild, an inspiration!

I have not heard of Anjelique Kidjo but will be checking her out.

The way I post from You Tube is when I look up a clip you get a URL option and an Embed option opposite on the right hand side area of the screen. You get it for most songs unless the person who uploaded has blocked it. You can then copy and paste the Embed code directly into a post. Its the easiest way to post videos from You Tube.

Let me know how you get on if you get a chance to try. Bye for now bud!
