Black-headed Gull

This is the Black-headed Gull, Larus ridibundus, although at this time of year they do not have black heads.








The birds develop a darkened, to be accurate chocolate brown, plumage over their head for the breeding season; it's breeding plumage.

By the end of the year all that is left of the breeding plumage is one dark spot behind each eye as seen below.










Like all Gulls they seem to be masters of trajectory!
They have distinctive dark red bills and legs.
These Gulls are found predominantly in land and are commonly seen following tractors across open fields.
