A Song For You

This is one of my favouroite songs ever, although I find it very sad. Anyway Neil Diamond has recorded it for his new album and I heard it on Radio 2 today, so I thought I would come and post this version here. No offense Neil but this is a tough card to trump.

Lyrics, A Song For You (Leon Russell)

I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung a lot of songs I've made some bad rhyme
I've acted out my love in stages
With ten thousand people watching
But we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

I know your image of me is what I hope to be
I've treated you unkindly but darlin' can't you see
There's no one more important to me
Darlin' can't you please see through me
Cause we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

You tought me precious secrets of the truth withholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you

You tought me precious secrets of the truth withholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
We were alone and I was singing this song for you

  1. Aw bless! I think Fish pinched that final long for a Marillion lyric (certainly looks like it wasat least an influence - let me see if I can work out which song it was - I have the lines in my head). Lovely song, nice post Dancin'!

  2. Of course, I meant "that final line" - stubby fingers after a long tiring run!

  3. "Lavender":

"They were singing a song for you
Well it seemed to be a song for you
The one I wanted to write for you, for you". Similar sentiment anyway!

  4. Hi Dancin!!! Miss you. I've been hanging on facebook more lately and also me and my honey have been sick for going on 10-15 days!!! Been sorta rough. I love this song, but I just gotta say, hearing it by Leon Russell himself was always the best for me, though Karen Carpenter's voice is beautiful. Did you hear Leon and Elton John have a new CD called Union? Elton wanted his "hero" to being doing better and getting the recognition he deserved, so he initiated it. I am definitely going to get it soon. Will hope to write more soon ... didn't want you to think I fell off the Earth! Also! Loved your jack-o-lantern! Great toothy smile! We ... turned off all the lights, closed the drapes, went to the back of the house and opted out of Halloween, since we both felt crummy and if we bought candy and few came (our street has homes spread far apart which isn't conducive to GOBS of candy for little ghouls and boys!) well, we'd end up eating all the candy ourselves ... prob in 1 day! Keep smilin' and being your Great Self! xo

  7. Hey Kyle! Sorry to hear you are feeling off bud and I hope you and Geoff are better soon. I miss you too! I have never heard Leon Russell sing this but will hunt it out now. I did hear he had got together with Elton. I will have to check that out too. I am a big fan of Elton John but much earlier stuff. He is an amazing muscician but I have not been such a fan of his stuff in recent years. I am stuck in Goodbye Yellow Brick Road era! Be well, keep smiling and bye for now bud xxx

  8. Hey Bowledover! Yes for you! You know that woman singer and band I played you and Lord L who sounded like Karen C? They are called Rumer. I thought maybe we should check out their album as I have heard their second single now and that's good too. Would you be interested in hearing it? xxx
