I am absolutely delighted to report that our rescued badger was released back into the wild last night having made a full recovery. You can read about it and watch a short video of his release HERE.
Just thought you'd like to know that I've uploaded another video clip of Willow, filmed not long before his release last night when I was feeding him a few last deglet noor dates! What a sweetie he (or she) was. Thanks for making the call, I'm glad I was able to help bring about a happy ending to this story.
Hi Steve! Thanks, I will go and have a look now. I walk my dogs up the Hill Fort where you released Willow, and where he/ she was found and wonder is he is just feet away under the ground. There are so many warrens in the area and badger setts.
It distresses me greatly to see so many badgers run over, in fact it amazes me and baffles me a little too, you would think people are aiming at them! So I am so pleased to be involved in a happy ending.
I also found your badger sites very interesting and informative and had no idea that there were several species of badger in England. I am learning a lot so thank you for that.
English Folk Verse (c.1870) - The Fifth of November Remember, remember! The fifth of November, The Gunpowder treason and plot; I know of no reason Why the Gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot! That's the only portion of this poem I have known up until now, however this year I came across the rest which I have to say I am not in complete agreeance with. Guy Fawkes and his companions Did the scheme contrive, To blow the King and Parliament All up alive. Threescore barrels, laid below, To prove old England's overthrow. But, by God's providence, him they catch, With a dark lantern, lighting a match! A stick and a stake...
I grabbed this shot one day on our camping trip. The buzzard was a regular visitor to the field and had just delighted me with a close fly over. He hovered over my head for ages and I allowed myself the pleasure of just watching before I decided it was worth a mad dash for my camera and a quick lens change. My big lens takes better shots from the tripod as the small movements of my hand and breathing make for blurred images but I was pleased to be able to get this anyway.
