Creative Tuesdays #2 - Tree House

As an arborist I predominantly manage amenity trees, and the frequent conflicts between them and people; this includes consideration of the wide variety of wildlife that rely on trees for habitat, food and navigation. As such I chose my tree house to be more natural and depict some of the creatures I have to look for and consider as part of my job inspecting and managing trees.

This has been a great challenge and encouraged me to practice drawing some new things which has been a rewarding experience. This piece was created using soft pastels, coloured pencils and black pen.

  5. your use of colors is wonderful, and the softness of the pastels/color pencils works well here; the tree looks like a creature itself, reminds me how alive trees can appear even when they have no eyes. great interpretation of the CT theme.

    have a lovely day.

  8. Hi Christine, thank you. I spend a lot of time looking at all different species of trees but drawing them is a new thing for me, its been good to have a go and put some of what I know about form and function into practice on the page.

  10. OOh, Dancin' I love what you wrote here, giving us background into why you depicted your piece as you did. I love the natural setting, the glow or the moon/sun's glow and all those lil' critters who live and rely upon the tree. I love the way the day is turning to night or maybe morning and the way the owl and birds seem perfectly content up there in this magical looking tree with outstretched arms. Geeat interpretation and write up! Love it. Thank you so much for playing along this week too! :)

P.S. You're having a baby?!! Congratulations and good luck with all that! Exciting times indeed. I hope you are feeling well and all's good there? Really amazed you found the energy and wherewithal to even do this then! Thank you. Take care.

  11. Thanks Michael, I really, really enjoyed doing this. Yes baby Scarlett is due imminently and to be honest having this to work on has been a blessing as I cant do much else at this stage :0) I am determined to keep it up when she does arrive as a bit of therapy. All is well though and hopefully she will make an appearance soon. Really looking forward to the next theme. I believe you are returning to Colorado soon? Good luck and I hope all goes well, bye for now.
