John Martyn - Missing You Already

John Martyn died today....my partner text me the news at work. I have said before that I believe in celebrating life, and that death is part of life, but today my heart is sad and I have the urge to bawl.

I love John Martyn and his music has touched me for many years, since the very first time I ever heard him 18 years ago when a friend played me Solid Air, the album I am currently listening to.

He was a unique song writer and musician and in tribute to his glorious talent I would like to share some of my favourite tracks of his. If you have the time and have never heard of him please listen to a song. I do not think you will regret it.

Who am I kidding, they are all my favourites, don't worry there is plenty more on You Tube. Good bye John. Be at peace.

  1. I understand your sadness, however, he would say I leave you so much to enjoy, be happy.

  2. DF, I am sorry for this loss to you. I know there have been musicians who have died and I felt devastated (prob starting with Janis Joplin) and of course Stevie Ray Vaughn. By the way, I saw him 3 times and feel so blessed for that. Never did see Janis.
I listened to John M and his voice was rich and poignant. I thank you for introducing me to him, even if it was on a sad occasion.

  3. Hey Bowledover, thank you for your lovely comment. We are having another John Martyn session this evening remembering with joy and love. We met a lot of people today at work who shared our sadness, he touched a lot of people.

When you told me how much you had liked Eddie Cochran I though how upset you must have been when he died, and so young as well. Music touches you in such a unique way, and musical hero's leave a big gap.

Hey Kyle, thank you and blimey, 3 times!!!!! Thank you for taking the time to listen to John Martyn and I am glad you enjoyed his music. If you get a chance check out his album Solid Air, it is beyond words. Be well and happy bud, bye for now.

  4. Hi DF ... I will see if I can check out his Solid Air CD. Also, wanted to tell you that I just posted a VERY long blog post you might find some amusement in (or not?) I couldn't believe how long it turned out, but I just copied it from my tiny little 3x5 memo pad I stopped writing entries in 1999. Wanted to see if it would cheer you up.
We are having some excitement. Last wkend I (wrongly) scared a huge hawk away after he attacked a smaller hawk sitting on our fence, and it died and has been buried in deep snow all week. The big one never came back. Then a few days ago 5 crows came and ate some of it and today came back and I heard a commotion like crazy! 5 big crows high up in the tree squawking up a storm ... the big hawk 20 feet below them on a limb, not moving, one crow dive-bombed him and I saw him actually move it. I hope the crows stay smart or one will be its lunch! Not easy being a predator or a scavenger in this arctic tundra!

  6. Server issues prevented me commenting earlier. My partner like you was gutted by this news. He has been a major influence, whereas mine to name one is Nick Drake his friend. Music for me is my real love and passion and those that create the real masterpieces that speak to the soul the most human of mankind. I joke around a lot blog wise, but for me was truly a black day as I see it was for you.

  7. Hey Babooshka, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I know of Nick Drake, funnily enough through the song written for him by John Martyn. He died far too young.

It's good to share thoughts and I am grateful for your visit and words.
